I collected artworks from various artists of two DotA characters, the first, Death Prophet and the second, Naga Siren. I chose these two because I liked the look of Death Prophet and the way other artists portrayed her. Her large, glowing green hands and her green hair and tinged skin make her look interesting and there's a quality about her that makes her look hostile and somewhat evil.
I came across this painting done by 'exellero', and it drew my attention to the character of Death Prophet, as there was an ethereal, haunting quality about it. The way she floats, her posture, the way her hair flows upwards, the greens and blues in her skin, eyes and hair. She exudes power, vulnerability due to her clothing, in particular the rips, and a sense of tranquility.
These large hands and green skin are perhaps ugly features, but they are primarily what strikes as inhuman, as well as the way she floats.
This concept art of Death Prophet found on the DotA 2 Wiki page features an interesting design, the headdress seems to be entirely different from the in game character, and I really like it. It is reminiscent of a Japanese fan headdress, with the addition of horns. The dark marks around and under the eyes are different as well, more demonic. Her clothing features more rips and seems to be one simpler piece of material, symbolising some sense of decay.
Naga Siren is a beautiful character, the bright oranges and yellows used are very striking and couple nicely with the greyish blue of her skin. The shape of her head is what particularly interests me. Unlike headdresses the shape of her head is more organic and more natural as her skull forms this particular fan shape and spreads out to look more like fish fins.
Whilst looking at images of Death Prophet, I was reminded of the League of Legends character Kalista due to the colour palette used. The greens and blues are often used to indicate a specter or some kind of spirit person. Interesting to note.
Other characters from League who share similar colour palettes are Thresh and Hecarim, other spectral beings.
And a character similar to Naga Siren, is Nami. Although she has a headdress and her torso shows the fish element, almost as though she is wearing clothes. Her colours are also less vibrant and more like a typical mermaid.
However, her other skins provide more colourful alternatives.
And much like Naga Siren, in this River Spirit skin, she does not have a headdress but more an extension of her face, it appears the be part of her forehead.
